| "En éstos días se habla mucho de la Biotecnología, visualizamos laboratorios sofisticados, equipos caros y personal tan especializado que solo ellos entienden lo que hablan. ¿y si te dijera, que podemos hacer biotecnología de bajo costo y alto impacto?, que los científicos nos aislamos por tanto tiempo y vivimos gran parte de nuestra vida leyendo y experimentando para entender los principios básicos que ahora nos permiten hacer económico lo que nuestra sociedad necesita?. Si te dijera, que después del descubrimiento de la estructura del ADN en 1953 que lleva toda la información de la creación de un organismo, después de aprender en 1986 que la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR) nos permite hacer mucho ADN a partir de una sola hebra, de aprender que podemos manipular ese ADN en diferentes organismos: bacterianos (1978) y en la famosa oveja Dolly (1997); que después de todo eso…nos damos cuenta que necesitamos volver a ti y a tus necesidades. Que de nada sirve todo lo que sabemos si permanece guardado en un laboratorio o puesto en un artículo científico que solo pocos entendemos; que de nada sirve si no podemos devolvérselo a la sociedad que contribuyó en que nosotros pudiéramos formarnos y entender lo que ahora sabemos. En éste artículo presentaremos lo que la biotecnología puede hacer para solucionar problemas reales de nuestro México, presentamos también el aspecto económico y de mercados que influyen en la toma de decisiones en el uso de la biotecnología que te llega como sociedad. Pero también presentamos una opción, una propuesta que empezamos a desarrollar en CIBNOR para aterrizar puntualmente el uso de la Biotecnología para nuestra gente, en el campo." What if I told you that we can make high impact biotechnology at low cost?, That scientists isolate ourselves for a long time and live a great part of our lives reading and experimenting to understand the basic principles that now allow us to make cheaper what our society needs.
