| "Los manglares están considerados entre los ecosistemas más importantes de la Tierra debido a su alta productividad y amplia gama de servicios ecosistémicos (SE). El objetivo de este capítulo fue analizar las contribuciones de los manglares del noroeste de México a partir sus servicios culturales (SEC) y de regulación y mantenimiento (SERM), asimismo se identificaron los principales factores de riesgo. Para ello, se realizó una revisión documental y un análisis geoespacial empleando diferentes bases de datos. Los manglares del noroeste de México, constituyen el límite de distribución mundial en el Pacífico Nororiental donde confluyen manglares de clima subhúmedo tropical y árido subtropical. Se identificaron tres categorías de SEC: 1) Apreciación estética e inspiración para la cultura, el arte y la educación; 2) Patrimonio cultural, experiencia espiritual y sentido de pertenencia; y 3) Recreación, Salud y Turismo; y tres de SERM: 1) Regulación climática global, 2) Estabilización y protección costera y 3) Regulación de nutrientes y biorremediación de contaminantes. Las contribuciones en el bienestar comunitario impactan en la seguridad y sanidad alimentaria, economía, salud, contexto sociocultural, seguridad y protección ante amenazas climáticas. Las contribuciones en la naturaleza influyen en la salud de la biodiversidad, calidad del agua en ambientes lagunares y oceánicos adyacentes, en la calidad de la atmósfera y la regulación climática local y global." "Mangroves are considered among the most important ecosystems on Earth because of their high productivity and wide range of ecosystem services (ES) that contribute to human well-being and the health of the natural system. The objective of this chapter was to analyze the contributions of mangroves in northwestern Mexico, based on cultural services (CES) and regulation and support services (SERM), as well to identify the main risk factors. For this purpose, a documentary review was carried out, as well as a geospatial analysis using different databases. The mangroves of northwestern Mexico constitute the limit of the global distribution in the northeastern Pacific, where mangroves of subhumid-tropical and arid-subtropical climates converge. Three categories of CES were identified: 1) Aesthetic appreciation and inspiration for culture, art and education; 2) Cultural heritage, spiritual experience and sense of belonging and 3) Recreation, health and tourism; and three SERM: 1) Global climate regulation, 2) Coastal stabilization and protection and 3) Nutrient regulation and bioremediation of pollutants. Contributions to community well-being impact food security and sanitation, economy, health, socio-cultural context, safety and protection from climate hazards. Contributions in nature influence the health of biodiversity, water quality in adjacent lagoon and oceanic environments, atmospheric quality and global climate regulation. The risk factors identified were associated with climate change and human influence. It is suggested to establish a permanent regional monitoring network considering different geomorphological configurations, spatial-temporal variability and standardized methods; reinforcing the lines of: 1) climate regulation with deep blue carbon stocks, 2) pollution risk and health effects, and 3) risk, vulnerability and climate change mitigation strategies." | |
